Read-a-thon Finished!!!

I'm done with my read -a-thon! At 9:00 today I finished. I read 1269 pages in 72 hours.
The books that I read are:
The Raven and other poems by Edgar Allen Poe - 45 pages
Johnny Tremain by Esther Forbes - 322 pages
The Wind in the Willows by Kenneth Grahame - 259 pages
Alice's Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll - 137 pages
Through the Looking Glass by Lewis Carroll - 161 pages
I also read 95 pages of The Hiding Place by Corrie ten Boom, but I found the subject matter to be too grown-up. I read 250 pages of The Blind Side by Michael Lewis but stopped reading it because it lost my earlier interest by going into topics too often that didn't interest me. However, I am finishing the Blind Side today for my reading merit badge.

Enough people have pledged that I will be able to go to scout camp for 5 days after paying my tithing. Thank you for supporting me!

Day 2

During day 2 accomplished I read 250 pages of The Blind Side. But, I did not finish it because it wasn't a subject I found interesting. So I've decided to read The Wind in the Willows and Lewis Carrol's: Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass. So far I have read 712 pages. Goodbye.

Read-a-thon

The first part of my fund-raising efforts will be a read-a-thon. Not only will this finish my Reading merit badge, but it will also help me complete part of my Personal Finance MB.

Details:
The read-a-thon will be 72 hours long, I won't be stopping for anything except to eat, sleep and update my blog. Mom just informed me my responsibilities with Jack are still in force. The books I will be reading are:
The Hiding Place by Corrie Ten Boom
The Blind Side by Michael Lewis
Johnny Tremain by Esther Forbes
The Raven by Edgar Allen Poe(not a book, but a really long poem)
Altogether there are 940 pages I will attempt to read in only 72 hours. I will start the read-a-thon on the morning of Wednesday Feb 23 and finish Saturday Feb 27.

Pledging:
The pledge amounts I am looking for are simple: a penny or two a page. If a penny/page is too much for your budget, pledge 1/2 a penny. If you feel more generous, pledge accordingly. If I reach my goal and you pledged $.01/page your total pledge amount would only be $9.40.
The easiest way to pledge is by leaving a comment on this post. I will update my blog with my progress and when I am all finished, I will post the total pages read. Then you simply calculate the total pledge and send it my way.

I am so grateful to anyone who pledges for my read-a-thon or simply supports me in my goals. It means a great deal to me. If you are unable to donate your moral support is still welcome. I am excited at the possibility of going to camp this year. Thank you very much!

Scout Camp fundraising begins

I have the great opportunity to go to two scout camps this summer. One is sponsored through our ward and I will be involved in fundraising for that with my scout troop. The other is with another ward in our area and it is at the Rodney Scout Reservation here in MD. Our ward camp is focusing mainly on Duty to God and the RSR is focused more on Scouting. In order to attend the RSR my parents said I need to do my own fundraising to earn the money. The cost to attend is $315 for five days.

I wanted to do something that would help me to pass off merit badges and earn the money I need for camp. There will be three parts to my fundraising. First is a read-a-thon I am doing this week. I sent out an email to a lot of people but I might have missed someone. I post more tomorrow about the read-a-thon. Second, I am doing a bake sale. This will be in my own neighborhood and will be when it gets warmer outside. Third, I am going to bake bread and sell it. I will only do this final step if I haven't raised enough money from the first two parts.

I will update my blog as I work towards each one.
